Seattle Downtown Area Placemaking

Seattle, WA

BRV was retained by the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA), in partnership with the City of Seattle, to provide placemaking and public realm assessments and recommendations for five public spaces in the heart of Downtown Seattle in an effort to increase activity, safety, and livability in the urban core. Key focus areas included Westlake Park, Occidental Square, Pioneer Square Park, City Hall Park, and Prefontaine Place.

Work included staffing plans, budgets, maintenance, and revenue generation strategies. Additionally, BRV provided a governance plan recommending the organizational structure and management for Downtown’s public realm, including recommendations on the division of responsibilities between the City, DSA, and other key stakeholders. This governance assessment included ways to make the spaces more cohesive while streamlining and improving the areas of responsibility and management.
