Working with the State of Alabama, the City of Birmingham, and ALDOT, BRV collaboratively shaped a new plan to transform underutilized space underneath I-59/20. The highway cuts right through Birmingham’s downtown, cutting key cultural and educational institutions off from surrounding neighborhoods. To ameliorate these conditions, BRV worked closely with the architecture team to create a highly-programmed park with distinct activities, uses, and amenities available throughout the linear public space.
