BRV made a wide variety of recommendations aimed at improving the appearance and functioning of Brown University for its students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. BRV suggested design changes and programming to make campus plazas more inviting, proposed a new lighting scheme catered towards the unusual hours of college students, and made recommendations for more interesting gardens and grounds throughout campus. BRV also created a plan for a new streetscape in the area of Providence surrounding the University and advised the University on the formation of a business improvement district to implement the improvements and manage ongoing sanitation and security. BRV’s work included recommending unconventional ways for the university to generate additional revenue on campus in the form of streamlined services, deals with corporate partners, and entrepreneurial real estate transactions.
